Vergani since 1881

It is said that nougat was born in Cremona to celebrate the marriage between Francesco Sforza and Bianca Maria Visconti: a special sweet created for a day meant to live on in memory and in the heart.

In 19th-century Cremona, nougat was a city ritual, crafted in delicatessens and small workshops, and highly sought after for festivals, ceremonies, and banquets.

After years as an apprentice, Secondo takes over the shop and begins producing his nougat in the back room. A simple, authentic recipe, passed down to this day.

Having overcome the hardships of war, the small business becomes an industry with a vision. Nougat begins its journey to the United States, Canada, and Egypt, as the taste of Cremona conquers the world.

After the Second World War, Italy rises again—and so does Vergani. Production is modernized, yet the recipe remains unchanged: honey, almonds, time, and dedication.

Vergani becomes a joint-stock company (SpA) and continues to grow, adding new specialties alongside nougat, such as pralines and mostarda.

The new production facility opens—the same site where all Vergani products are still made today. A place where past and present meet every day.

With the entry into the Lameri Group, a fresh wave arrives: resources, enthusiasm and the same passion for a product that never stops captivating people.
